DESCRIPTION
Student musicians are invited to audition for master classes and a workshop with members of Ensemble Triolet: harpsichordist Joyce Lindorff, flutist Wendy Stern, and violinist Shelby Yamin. Students will have the opportunity to interact with and be coached by these master musicians. Four students will be selected to perform in each class; classes will also include special presentations by the artist-teachers on their Baroque instruments. Intended for students 12 and older. NOTE: for their master class performance-coaching, students will pay their own modern instruments or the piano that is provided. Repertoire from all historical periods is welcome. The application deadline is October 18.
SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY
• 9AM Master Class with Joyce Lindorff, harpsichord, including a presentation on the fascinating expressive technical differences between the piano and the harpsichord. The class is intended for pianists.
• 9AM Master Class with Wendy Stern, flute, including a presentation about the Baroque flute and about Suzuki teaching. Ms. Stern is an internationally respected master Suzuki teacher.
• 9AM Master Class with Shelby Yamin, violinist, including a conversation and q+a about the Baroque violin, the ancestor of the modern-day instrument.
• 12 noon lunch break - please bring a bag lunch.
• 1-2PM All students and attendees gather in the sanctuary at St. George’s for a workshop and conversation on Baroque performance practices and ensemble playing with Ms. Lindorff, Ms. Stern, and Ms. Yamin.
IMPORTANT NOTES
• The application deadline is October 18.
• Students chosen to perform in a master class pay a fee of $25, which includes the after-lunch workshop. Students who perform in the morning master classes are kindly expected to stay for the afternoon workshop, which is included in the enrollment fee. Teachers, friends and family are welcome to attend free of charge.
• For their master class performance-coaching, students will play their own modern instruments or the piano that is provided.
• Repertoire from all historical periods is welcome.
• The classes are open to the public and free of charge to those who wish to listen and observe.
• There will be a break after the morning master classes. Please bring a bag lunch.
• The master classes and workshop will take place on the campus of St. George’s Episcopal Church, 19167 Poplar Hill Lane, Valley Lee, MD 20692
• Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
• Masks are required.
