Music from Poplar Hill - the Jo Ricks Music Series in the community…

…offering opportunities for children and youth to get to know the artists.

“I wanted to say thank you one more time for providing such a wonderful opportunity for Savannah.  Before yesterday, she had no idea what a master class was…and it’s all she’s talked about since.  I appreciate all of the time, energy and effort put into a program that invests in our future musicians.” - Shawnetta McCombs, parent

The accomplished musicians who are invited to appear at Music from Poplar Hill are also dedicated educators.

In addition to their live concert performances in the sanctuary at St. George’s, these exceptional artists offer educational opportunities to young musicians, either at St. George’s or in local schools.

This combination of live performances of the highest quality with educational programming for young people forms the heart and soul of Music from Poplar Hill - the Jo Ricks Music Series. By offering a wide range of musical styles, including Western European classical, jazz, blues, and music of world cultures, we hope to enrich the cultural life of St. Mary’s County.

Accessibility is a high priority of Music from Poplar Hill, and thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and supporters, we are able to offer the performances at reasonable ticket prices, and the educational programs at low cost or free of charge.
