Award-winning composer and vocalist ROCHELLE RICE
Rochelle Rice, the award-winning jazz, pop, soul, and folk singer and songwriter, returns to Music from Poplar Hill to share her original and authentic storytelling through music. She will present a new program titled Tell Her This that focuses on the intimate stories and lived experiences of American women of various cultures and ages - their challenges, loves, and joys. Based on personal interviews she conducted, she has written a new body of songs inspired by the stories of her subjects.
Winner of the 2018 Bernard Ebb Songwriting Award, Ms. Rice was a featured soloist at the Grand Opening of the Museum of African American History and Culture on the National Mall in Washington, DC. A member of the renowned a cappella group Sweet Honey in the Rock, Ms. Rice is a dynamic and compelling performer who is dedicated to social justice and music education. As a solo artist, she creates distinctive original songs that tell stories of the Black American experience, women’s lives, and her personal experiences as a woman of color, and she builds powerful concert and educational programs around those themes.
Rochelle Rice drew a standing ovation at her first performance for Music from Poplar Hill in the fall of 2020. Join us for her return visit and find out why!
